A Shimmy & A Shake!

Hello Fellow 'Wingers?

Got one I hope you can help me out with. Just bought a '93 1500 SE. Bringing the bike home, I noticed that, especially in left turns in traffic, there seems to be a bit of a "shimmy" or "shake" in the forks (I do not know... I am just guessing). It is not leaking fork oil. Any ideas at what I might be dealing with? Also, how much is a standard brake job for the bike? Sorry to ask, but it is Monday and all the shops/dealerships are closed until tomorrow!

Things to check.
Tire pressure and condition,
wheel bearings,
steering bearings,
fork oil,
swingarm bushings.

Brake pads are cheap, but if it needs hydraulic work that will be more.
Be aware it is a linked braking system. The hand brake is only one front caliper while the foot brake is the other one, plus the rear.
It's getting harder to find shops that will work on older bikes.

Thanks much for the info on things to check; I definitely will. I had no idea the foot brake controlled the rear brakes and one of the discs on the front wheel... Learn something new everyday!

Man, you've got it right about shops not wanting to touch older bikes. My local shop will, fortunately, work on 1500s and later. However, I ended up selling two 1000s, because I just couldn't find the parts, or I could not find someone to work on it, so they had to go.
