Gas Smell

Post by TylitoZookowski »

Hey Everyone, I recently bought a 1995 GL1500. Everything seemed fine except some carbs that are in definite need of tuning, but the bike smells very strongly of gasoline. It's stinking up my garage and my wife doesn't want to go in there.

It's been sitting in the garage for about 4 hours. There's no leaks or puddles I can see without taking the ferrings off. Anyone have any ideas where I should look first?

+1 also recently had this happen. Thought it was my old trucks fuel lines but turns out it was fuel petcock for goldwing that was park next to truck at the time. Smelled up garage and house :|
Fortunate its pretty simple job to rebuild petcock. Showchrome had the discount when purchased rebuild kit has new rubber gaskets and spring.

Check fuel lines to each carb.
My right one snapped its wire clamp.
Same as you couldn't see anything on the ground so started pulling here & there, POP off it came.
When it comes to fuel I now double up my clamps.
The bike can burn & be replaced, not me.

.
When I do one thing, I'll side-step a little & learn few more things.

Thanks everyone, sorry for the late reply. It was the petcock (auto valve). Rebuilt that and we're good to go (at least on the gas smell).

Gives us relief you found it.
Do check those fuel lines clamps. I believe if I road a few minutes more, POOF-FLAMES. It was that bad.
