GL1500 Final Drive gear oil
My manual recommends SAE80. I've seen a lot of people use 75W-90 or 80W-90 and Amsoils website recommends 75W-90 for my bike. I'm planning on towing around 500 lbs across the country. Would it be a good idea to use something a little heavier like 75W-110 or do you think 75W-90 will hold up?

75-90 is fine. Too heavy an oil will just make it run hot.

Re: GL1500 Final Drive gear oil
no need for a thicker oil.
I have had several shaft driven bikes and used Supertech 80w-90 conventional (Honda Shadow 1100, GL1500, CB900C, GL1800) and 75w-90 synthetic (BMW K1600) for thousands of miles with no issues.
