Stuck pulse generators / timing belt change

Post by piekielrl »

Hi All, I'm currently changing the timing belts on my 97 Aspencade, per Scott's excellent how-to article that was published here a while back. Everything is going smoothly EXCEPT when I remove the bolts to remove / slide away the pulse generators, they are stuck to the engine frame - my guess is that some Loctite originally got out of the threads and is "gluing" the pulse generator mounting brackets to the engine frame. Has anyone ever had this issue? I tried hooking and lifting the mounting "ears" with a screwdriver, but they won't budge. I don't want to try to wedge them by prying against the actual square housing that contains the generators...How hard and where can I apply pressure to get them to release, without breaking them? Thanks, Bob

Use a small putty knife or a wood chisel between the bracket and the engine, where the bolts were. You could also just tap on the bracket to slide it free. Loctite between two surfaces like that shouldn't be that hard to get apart.

Got them free, thanks! All back together and everything runs fine. Now all I need is some good weather here in central NY state...
