right side handle switch frustration

Post by swifty101 »

HI everyone. New to this forum. Yesterday. I replaced all the dead lights in throttle side switch. But I am having a hell of a frustrating time getting the dang thing back together. I took pics. But not enough to help me out. I did read that this is not a fun project. So I had to walk away from it before I really do something stupid. :x So I could really use some help here.

1. I swore I could remember that heating wire for grip was up on top, not on bottom like it is in picture. The left side is up on top. How much of a P.I.A. is it to unplug the heater wire? Assuming it goes down to steering.
2 The "stop switch setting" plate is a real P.I.A. The plate is really not making it easy for me to get the damn thing back together. What is the purpose of this stupid plate? :?: I am about to turn into a frisbee. UGH!

Service manual is no help.

Swifty...I feel for you with the position of that plate A of the Stop switch plate, however it is required to be there to keep the right controls from rotating on the bar. in the handle bar there is a hole that lines up with the stop plate (#4 on the diagram. With out this your control may rotate when going on the throttle...be patient and go slow is the best advice I can offer....

There are pictures in my write that may be helpful...viewtopic.php?p=363058#p363058 Go down a few of the posts to see the pictures

Not sure what manual you're using? But here are a few photos from the factory one to help you, along with a couple of heater wire photos from my wing. Make sure the left one is not under any tension as it will eventually fail. Yes the heater wires go down towards the steering stem.
Yea that plate is a real fiddly S.O.B as you are finding out.

Your Service Manual is probably your best friend. Look at the Handle Bar Switch pages, in the Lights, Meters, and Switch section. Also, at the back of the main section, I think in front of the Index, or at the back of the ETM section, their might be photos ... I can't remember and don't have my Service Manual handy.
