05 GL1800 unidentified part

Post by n8apu » Mon Jan 25, 2010 12:48 pm

Looking at a 05 Gl1800. There is a plastic or fiberglass object, rectangular in shape located on the underside between the engine and the main stand. I can't figure out what it is or what its for. Any help please

Got a picture of said item? If you email it to me, I'll confirm, but you are likely looking at one of 2 things:

1) the coolant overflow bottle (its white plastic, sometimes covered with a layer of adhesive aluminum, but usually just exposed...its flat on the bottom)
2) a makeshift cover for the coolant overflow bottle---most people who are concerned about it purchase a belly pan for the bottom, but some people have made covers to protect the coolant bottle in case some road debris should come up and hit the underside of the bike and puncture the coolant bottle. Same goes for the oil filter at the front of the engine

Just a thought, it could be a add on part to help trip the traffic lights. If it is it should be a strong light weight magnet. Might want to put a peice of metal or a screw driver next to it to see if it attracts it.
