2004 GL1800 Tamper Proof ignition bolts?
I am trying to replace the lower half of my ignition switch, but there are impossible bolts on it. They are made to go in not out. Does anyone know how to get these bolts out?

I have heard of people having to drill these bolts out. You can replace with regular bolts or get OEM ones.
I have never had to do it though.
Hope all goes well in your task.

I think others will be able to simply use visegrips as I did, or at worst file the edges slightly to get a flat surface to grip on. They are not torqued in very much.Bamaeagle wrote:I have heard of people having to drill these bolts out. You can replace with regular bolts or get OEM ones.

Perhaps drill the center of the bolt head and use an E Z out, or one of the toothed grip tight sockets for bolt heads that have been rounded. I keep lots of these type of tools around to help me fix other mechanics mistakes,

I have only ever succeeded in drilling them out, usually the bolts are in a recessed hole so you can't get pliers or grips onto the head.. I just drill them out and use regular allen head bolts afterwards..
