Post by tech1 »

Hello everyone
I am going to replace my tires on my 09 Wing this off season and am looking for opinion, info and pros and cons for radial and bias tires.
Also which brand and opinions of them.
Thanks Tech1

You should do a search for GL1800 tires. You would probably find all you are looking for as this is a commonly discussed subject. That said, I had great luck with the D250s that came standard on my Goldwing. I now have Avon Cobra Venoms on the bike and have had them long enough to really like them. Bridgestone has come out (two years ago) with a newly formulated tire for GL1800s, which they title the 704 and 709 series. They have been getting excellent reviews. All the foregoing are radial tires. I don't think I would put a bias ply on a motorcycle unless the factory said I had to. Just about all modern motorcycles, to my knowledge, now come with radials. They just run and feel nicer. Continental brought out a set for the GL1800 this year, but they are NOT getting rave reviews. They are an inexpensive tire in relation to some others out there, and people are not liking them a whole lot. Guess ya git what ya pay fer.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

Hi I see that Wingstuff has a Bridgestone tire combo deal for $280.00 . I think I am going to try the Dunlop Elite 3s for my 1800 Wing. I would not put a bias tire on my bike , Radials are so much better. Iam still not sure about putting a car tire on a bike. Car tire tires are made to run straight up not on the side like a bike tire for cornering. What do you people think. Take care and ride safe.
