I have a 2002 Honda GL1800 with a Motortrike conversion kit.
I need to change the Hi-beam bulbs, how do you get to them to change them?
I could sure use a hand at changing the bulbs.

I read once where someone said to take the front cowl off (the flat piece under the windshield that has to be removed when putting a new shield on). Apparantly this gives unrestrained access to the high beams.

I've seen 1800 owners changing headlight bulbs and being a 1500 owner I wasn't impressed with Honda's design on that part. You have to pretty well reach blindly up behind the lights to pull them out. If you have small hands it helps.

I'm also not impressed with the 1500's system, where you have to remove the mirrors and front fascia before accessing the headlight assembly. And I'm really not impressed with the way you have to balance those four tiny little flange spacer things vertically in their holes while pushing the headlight assembly in place, watching as they fall out repeatedly just as you push it home, causing you to swear and do it again.cbx4evr wrote:I've seen 1800 owners changing headlight bulbs and being a 1500 owner I wasn't impressed with Honda's design on that part. The 1100 had it right - a single set screw to remove the knob, remove a retaining nut on the adjuster, and the whole headlight assembly comes out the front. Simple and easy.

Just completed the job on my '02 and it was not as hard as people make it out. You can check out my 2cw on the tech forum. Yes, removing the glove boxes is necessary, but that is all that has to be removed. On the left side, disconnect the audio cable, if equipped and remove bolts holding the wiring harness to support bracket. This helps in moving wiring down out of the way. Then just follow the procedure for unplugging, grommet removal, bulb removal and reverse the procedure. These steps can be found on any of a hundred videos as everyone has there opinion. Just do what is easiest and you will have no problem. I will concede that having small hands helps, mine are not but that did not deter me. Good luck.

Easy enough once you have done it. I always carry a set of bulbs since a low beam blew while in Ireland, and I paid almost 10 quid for a bulb, was on my way to the Treffen site for the LP so it was dark too.
If at first you don't succeed, hide the evidence.

Re: How do you change Hi-beam bulbs on a 2002 GL1800
My 1500 is easy as I remove 2screws and 4 bolts and I have the whole headlight assembly in my hand. However the high beam bulbs on the 1800 are nearly impossible to get to. I changed the low beam bulbs easily but when I removed the fairing pockets there are huge electrical connections in the way and my hands are large enough that I can’t get in there. There are plastic headed screws mounting those connections to the vent tubes.
Those who say it cannot be done should try not to interrupt those who are doing it.
