I've only seen one (utube) video of a guy that had his 2012 blue wing blacked out areas painted silver. Looks really nice. Has anyone here done this? I'd love to do mine but woulod some tips/guidance.

Re: painting 2012 blacked out areas (sides, bags, rear panel
I saw one done totally in one color - red - and it looked good. I photoshopped a blue one for our GWRRA Chapter Director, and I believe he is having his painted now, over the winter. They look pretty good in one color, and the blue ones look good with some silver too. No tips on painting though, but your dealership should be able to point you to the company that manufactured the original paint, so you can match it if that is what you wish.

The dealers will usually decline with any paint help as all Honda parts come factory painted. They're really is no factory paint.
As you can see in my avatar, I did my lowers 2 years ago with PPG Deltron, mainly because DuPont did not have a formula at the time.
If you're trying to match paint, use the code on the gas cap door.... Then have them shoot it with a camera to compare formulas. I ended up doing mine twice because my Pearl Hot Rod Yellow was actually the 3rd Variation of the color (actually said "redder").
Disassemble, prep properly, and follow all mfrs instructions on the paint you choose.

I am really sorry everyone cannot have the dealer we have here. He has no problem whatsoever telling us what we need to know for paint etc. The buddy whose bike I photoshoped got the paint manufacturer's name from our dealer. In fact, the dealer offered it at the time my buddy bought the bike, knowing the bike would be touched up to get rid of the ungodly scheme. Who knows, - with this guy, the bike may end up orange,pau7220 wrote:The dealers will usually decline with any paint help as all Honda parts come factory painted. They're really is no factory paint.

Re: painting 2012 blacked out areas (sides, bags, rear panel
Thanks for the replies. I was under the impression that colorite?? is the company that supplies the correct paint products for the 2012 wing?
I've been watching a lot of utube videos on painting, and have decided I need : sandpaper(1500/2000 grit) paint, clearcoat, polish, wax. I've never painted a vehicle of any kind before but am good at following directions. Any tips advice you can provide would be appreciated.

I'm rounding up some extra parts to send off for color match painting. I want to be able to ride while the parts are gone to the painter.
Where are you guys getting yours painted?

I'm having a trailer painted to the same 3-color scheme as the bike. I should have it back by next week if you need to know the exact color/code for the Wing's frame's silver.
Ride Safe!

This 2012 isn't mine but I sure do wish it were. I've also got a White 2012 and want to get mine done like this. I think it looks like a Million Dollars. I talked with the owner and he had the dealer have it painted.

Hi Kikker,
Yeh, that white is nice. I do love the two-tone but don't like the blacked out panels. The chrome looks nice and I could consider doing the same to the two side panels but I really like the two-tone on the side bags and the silver on the center rear panel. Do you know anyone here at this site that does painting I could ask advice from? I also like what the guy did with his seat. Do you know how he got the two-tone on the seat?
thanks

That's an Ultimate Seat. Looks very nice huh? I will be considering one for my WIng as soon as I get the color match painting out of the way.

I love all your ideas with color schemes. I may consider the same silver on my blue 12. I must ask since the panels are also scuff protectors. How do they holdup with riding boots and big feet? Did you guys cover them with clear vinyl to protect them?

Paint is readily available from Color Rite - I've bought from them before for another bike- it's easy ordering- you can get touch up or larger cans- they're a good outfit. www.colorrite.com, and have your paint code, though they list by color and code.

Hey gang,
So as to not confuse anyone. I am also registered as vinlugg. I was unable to get into the site as william Lugg so I re-registered. Just want to be included in this thread if anyone or myself does paint their bike themselves. Sorry for any confusion.

kit980 had his bike painted recently and it looks awesome. Hopefully he'll post his pics on this thread. I ran into an old "work-mate" that has run a body shop for many years and I asked him if he could give me guidance on painting my bike myself. He said no problem. I won't be doing it until probably February but will post pics as I go. I'm excited to do this.
