CB radio gain adjustment
Other riders say they can hardly hear me on the cb while others in our group come in loud and clear. I have a 2001 Gl 1800 Goldwing. Can I adjust the gain on the radio?

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Do you have access to an SWR meter to adjust the antenna?

Re: CB radio gain adjustment
No - YOU cannot adjust the gain, although possible Sierra Electronics may be able to. They are reported to be very good with these Goldwing radios. One thing you can try is - find someone with an SWR meter (Standing Wave Ratio) that will work with these CBs (requires non standard connectors to splice into the antenna coax at the join under the bike seat) and adjust the SWR to be as close to zero as it can be. This could help, but it will depend on whether the antenna is too long, or too short. If too long, it can be trimmed, but if too short, the top spar will need replacing.

I found a service bulletin on the radio. It has to be replaced. Thanks for your help.

If "replacement" is really required(?) and it's not free, suggest looking here:

Re: CB radio gain adjustment
There was an exchange program in 03 due to low modulation and a squelch problem. The exchange radios were Clarion CB's with date code prior to May 2003 and the refurb units with these earlier dates were marked with a green dot sticker. The radios that were not repaired in 2003 can still be repaired by Sierra. Just call Jeff for more info.Kandkconstruction wrote:I found a service bulletin on the radio. It has to be replaced.
