trunk lid rattle/loose fit

Post by doctorofpain »

Didn't see anything through the search but my 06 trunk lid rattles because it is not a very tight fit. Are there any good fixes for this? Thanks

Yeah I think this is common when I was looking for something on this .I found they have a rubber stopped( snuffer) kit. You drill and put them in the top rim of the trunk. I just went to a local auto parts store and bought four and did it myself. Sally

And when you put the stoppers in, (bumpers) if they do not work, look into wrapping the hinges to keep them from making all the loose rattling sounds. On my bike, that is the problem.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

Not mine but I'd see some contact wear points in the trunk of a 2012.
I used a square inch of the fuzzy side of a Velcro strip in the contact areas of the lid.
There were 2 on one side.I covered them and matched to the other side to keep things even.
On my 88,I've noticed several of these wear spots.I cover them (hidden) the same way.
It stops the squeaking and rattling a bunch.

Yup!

Velcro. The fuzzy side only.

Put two strips the length of both sides on my lid. Fits nice and snug now.

It's the cheapest fix for this problem.

i ran a smaller rubber hose through the inside of the rubber gasket on the top lid when i added a luggage rack, it helped some plus gave more support for the weight of rack and luggage. i like the velcro idea, im going to give that a try. 8-)

Was asked to post up some pictures of exactly where I put the Velcro.

One long strip on each side shown in first picture. One small strip in each corner of lid as shown in second picture.

Cheapest, fastest fix there is. No more rattle!

One long Velcro strip on each side
One long Velcro strip on each side

One short Velcro strip in each corner of lid

Cool beans!!! Took me while to find it but I did. That explains perfect location. And u used the soft side of the Velcro? That kinda works well since the top portion of my bike is black!!! Thanx again for clarification. Will send reply back after I give it a try...

I just did this trick and during a day long ride yesterday, the trunk was completely rattle free. Was prompted to repeat the same thing I said just after installing my baker wind wings. "Why oh why didn't I do this years ago?"
I also put a few thin strips along my side bags as well.....Cant hurt.
Great tip thank you! :D
