'06 GL1800 High Beams

Post by Cleetorn »

Everybody says low beams are a snap & highs are troublesome. I can see that. What I can't seem to find info on is the exact procedure I need to follow to change out the highs. I pulled the pocket on the right side and it appears that the right high beam is located behind the speaker. I pulled the right speaker and the speaker is box behind it. This looks like some serious disassembly to get this whole thing apart. If somebody could give me an idea or two on how to complete this operation without taking the whole front end apart, I would greatly appreciate it.

This wont be of much help to you but if I remember right I reached up from around the fork tubes. It wasn't
easy and I did scape up my hand but that was easier than removing the shell. Luckily I have had to do this
only once in eight years.

It takes a skinny arm, small hands, a second elbo and a tube of KY to access through the faring pocket holes. Still as with the lowbeams remember the H7 bulbs are keyed to align at only one point in a 360 degree rotation; anything else leaves them cockeyed and an unfocused mess. It more satisfying to have a 2d person inspect the bulb position visually from the front (since you won't be able to) before you remove your arm from that gopher hole. BTW double check the light retainer clips are secure also!
