Can anyone with a GL1800 do me a favour
Hello All
Is there anyone with their heated seat off the bike that could measure the resistance of the front seat heater on the stock GL1800 comfort seat, that is the resistance in OHMS across the front 2 pin plug on the seat
or indeed has anyone got a ruined heated seat with a working front seat heater that we might be able to come to an arrangement over
I need to either bypass the existing broken heater to make the rear work or replace the existing one with another working one as it appears that it is not covered by the Honda extended warranty in the UK
Many thanks in advance
Regards Rob

Re: Can anyone with a GL1800 do me a favour
It is raining out and I read the beginning of your post and thought, great chance to do something worthwhile in the garage for a while(worthwhile meaning play with the Wing).
But then I realized you problem with the seat and my GL1800 does not have a heated seat so I can not help you, I am sorry!

I shall return in ten minutes or so. My stock heated seat is in my storage shed, so I shall go measure. Be back in a bit and will edit this post with your numbers.
** Sorry, it took me 20 minutes. That plug was a pig to get apart. The socket (female portion) measures 3.1 Ohms and the plug measures 3.4 Ohms. I hope this helps you.

Re: Can anyone with a GL1800 do me a favour
Not sure this will impact anything in your re-wiring process but I have a 2009 heated seat wired into my 2002. Using a Pulse Width Modulator to very power to the seat heater coils. I was suprised to find the coils are not as I found in the honda diagrams, they do for some reason have a positive and negative connection, thus if you invert the power connections they don't work! I swapped the wires through my own carelessness
during install and had cold buns, but correcting the connections I found great pleasure in activating the heat
. Maybe the heated seats very somewhat by year but the diagram in my service manual for heated seats did not disclose a diode or similar element between pins 1 and 2 (or 5 and 9) on the seat connector; I was dissappointed until I reversed the connections.
I too measured a very small resistance on the seat coils, between just over 2ohms front and 4 ohms rear (they were very different between from and back seat - I do not have a heated passenger packrest though). On the newer models though there are thermisters that monitor the seat temp and feed conditions to the HCU to prevent overheating and such. I would be tempted to remove the seat cover and see if I could locate and repair the break in the heat element ( perhaps a solderless crimp connection of some type).
