Starter problems

Post by hbphelan »

I have a 2002 wing with 23000+ miles.
When I push the start button, all I get is clicks. Thought possibly this was a solonoid problem. I had to change both of them about a year +/- ago.
This all happened after I back the bike into my shed. There is a slight rise and I have give the bike a nudge over. The battery had been checked, and I was told that it was good.

I am ready to take the starter out, but I just want to be sure that I haven't missed somthing like a sticking switch. I did notice if I turn the key on and put it into reverse and rock the bike the starter sounds like it wants to engage. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated before I bust knuckles taking out the starter.
Thanks in advance.

Just thinking about my 2002 and what I have had. Did you check the kill switch? On the older bikes the starter would turn over but it would not start. However on the 1800 you just get a click and the lights go out but starter will not engage. Hope it is this simple.

Very first thing I would do is verify that the battery is fully charged and good. Even put a boost battery to it. It would be a shame to do all the work replacing a starter to find out the battery actually was not good enough.
