Backrest thoughts GL1800
I'm leaning towards Utopia because of price but Kuryakyn makes wicked good products.

Utopia all the way.Kury's stuff really isn't all that great.Their chrome sucks, but that's not why I said Utopia. If you have a passenger she won't like the outside mounting bars for the backrest. Her legs will rest on them and it gets very uncomfortable. If you're riding solo then go for the Kury if that's what you like, but don't count on the chrome lasting all that long.
If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.

Re: Backrest thoughts GL1800
I had a Utopia on my 1500 and was very happy with it. Put a Hopnel on my 1800 mostly because of the fact that it was slightly smaller and I liked the way it looked on the bike. Very pleased with it also. Both were through the seat mounts without the rails.

I have and like the Utopia.
Comfortable and out of the way for wife. Also the pocket keeps her phone and other things handy (less background noise for me).
Just got a new jacket with a spine armor and it's like sitting in my recliner.

I took all the advice and went with Utopia. Just back from a 1500 mile ride on Natchez Trace and surrounding areas. Would have liked to use the Utopia but it's just shipping today. Looking forward to it.

Hope so. I bought the quick disconnect as well. Still less $$ than Kuryakyn.

Re: Backrest thoughts GL1800
I had a Utopia on my 1500. I decided I did not need one for the 1800 and after 94,000 miles I guess I was right. But if I were to get another one I would make sure it would come off with a push of a button if I did not want to use it for short rides.

I agree. I put one on my wife's Pacific Coast. It's a quality piece of equipment.pauliwally wrote:I have a Utopia. 100% satisfied. Take your time installing. It's a breeze.
