Stuck Cruise Control
Stuck Cruise Control
The cruise control push button on my 2005 GW is stuck in the "On" position. I can't get to disengage. My local Honda dealer "recommended" that I allow him to replace the switch cluster. Not gonna happen.
Any suggestions?

Re: Stuck Cruise Control
You may be able to get it free using a spray lube i use a little WD40 works well for me. A lot of people say not to use wd40 attract dusts hasn't been a problem for me or there are some other types like a electronic cleaner sprays. Plus theres a spring in the switch assembly that may need replacing, you can open it up and blow out the switch with can air just be careful if you have a manual that will help to insure everything goes back the proper way. I use my iPhone and take pictures. Hope this helps good luck beats paying 100 bucks and hour.

Re: Stuck Cruise Control
Mine does this all the time along with other switches on my 2005 GW. I use a Teflon spray, purchased at auto parts store, to reduce the chance of dust accumulation later on. Spray the switch and then trying cycling it off and on. Sometimes it takes several minutes of doing this or another shot of lube to get it to start working again but always does. Lasts for a while and they you'll be doing it again.

Re: Stuck Cruise Control
Mine was stuck on when I bought the bike, 05 with 49000 miles. Don't kick a sleeping bear. Just be happy that it is stuck ON.

Take a blow dryer to it for several minutes. Heats up the spring. A trouble lamp works too. Be careful.

Re: Stuck Cruise Control
You will need some contact cleaner and contact lubricant in aerosol cans. Radio Shack is a good source. Barring that, any electrical supply should have it.
Cover the exposed painted surfaces below the handlebar. Spray the cleaner into the switch quadrant adjacent to the switch button while repeatedly depressing and releasing the button. It will eventually free it up. When that happens, spray in the lubricant and once again repeatedly operate the button until its operation meets your satisfaction.

Re: Stuck Cruise Control
I pushed the button in when I bought the bike brand new, and have never cancelled it. The cruise works so I don't mess with it. MikeB's instructions are for me whenever it stops functioning.

I leave mine on all the time. I have 96k on my '06 and don't see why you would turn it off. Can someone tell me why I would turn it off?

Re: Stuck Cruise Control
I had this problem with the button for "reverse". It stuck in the on position. Luckily the bike was in the garage. This was temperature related and only happened when it was cold. Once I took a hair dryer and warmed it up, it worked again. I took the switch apart, cleaned it, and lubed it. This is now part of my yearly maintenance. I wouldn't want this to happen to me in the middle of nowhere on a brisk spring or fall ride.

Re: Stuck Cruise Control
I also bought mine with a stuck on cruise switch. After hearing how much for the whole assembly was, I left it alone. It works just fine as is.
