not what you need, but I found that with my SPOT gps tracker, that the only reliable place was on top of the rear truck lid.

I tried it all over the fairing, and it could not see, or reply to the satellites reliably.
Had so many skips, that it was useless for what I needed...

so, I velcroed it to the light bar on the top of the trunk, it has never missed a beat since then.
I tried a satellite antenna on the trunk before, and anytime I was riding south with a passenger on board, they completely blocked the satellite signal.

The only reliable place I've ever found that consistently works without being blocked is on the glareshield.

I always ride solo, the wife was an amputee, and has been gone now for almost a year. Sure do miss her.

I recall once on a big long trip, that I placed the SPOT on top of duffel bag which rode in the pillion seat.
it worked great there....

I think your solution on the glare shield is probably the best.....
I spent my whole working life in communications, and some folks, no matter how high a rank they have, just cannot understand that a GPS or a Satellite Radio can't see crap for shinola in major downtown areas amongst all the 30 and 50 story buildings., or in deep ravines, or the high mountain ranges....

They also have a very hard time seeing the sky when cruising under heavy foliage that is green green...

Seems I remember some one making a bracket (shelf) that fit between the passenger backrest and the trunk. Mounted the antenna on this bracket.
