GL 1800 alternator

Can anyone tell me the expected life of a GL 1800 alternator. I have 100,000 miles on my 2007 and was wondering if I should change it as a precaution. Both of my GL 1500 bikes i had to replace the alternators after about 100,000 miles.

In my observations (only observations not experiences), there have not been too many 1800 failures that require replacements. if you think that it is playing up a bit, a good clean and perhaps some new brushes should return it to its glory days. I believe that there are kits for this type of maintenance.

On my 06 the brushes were replaced at 155,000 miles under ext. warranty. I had commented to the dealer that I thought the head lights flicking a little. A friend of mine had his rebuild under warranty at 197,000 miles.

Can't remember what year (either '06, '07, or '08), that they changed it to a much stronger alternator that doesn't have as many breakdowns supposedly.

In 06 Honda beefed it from 1100 watts to 1300 watts if that is what you are talking about. The main failures with the alternator has to do with the drive gear failing.
