LCD SCREEN
I need to replace the LCD screen on my 08 wing. I thought this would be easy but it is more complicated than I thought. to get to the screen you have to remove the plastic shield over the gauges and LCD screen. This requires the removal of the dash (it appears) because the plastic shield is wedged behind it. Has anyone ever attempted this (removal of LCD panel) and is this a job I want to tackle or should I leave it to the dealer (UGH $$$$$) ?? Any advice? I got the main cover popped off exposing the plastic shield and removed the screws holding the shield on but now I am stuck.

Here's an exploded view from the Honda parts fiche.

It appears there are also a flange nut holding the cluster assembly which would be accessible from the front.
Impossible to say without being there, but another view may help.

Re: LCD SCREEN
Paul,
Did you ever get your screen changed? Reason I ask is mine is beginning to fail and I'll likely need to change mine in the near future. Any additional information on where you found and purchased your new screen from and any issues tips you may have for someone else who is going to try this would be greatly appreciated.

OldBrit if you have the extended warranty the dealer should replace it. I had mine replaced at 145,000 miles when small dots appeared.
My dealers justification to Honda was that is were the odometer is.

Re: LCD SCREEN
Just received my replacement LCD screen this week after about 4 weeks of waiting. This morning (1/13/2018) I started at about 7:00am to begin the replacement. WOW...great writeup on the process...really made it easy. Hardest part was getting the three connectors back onto the speedo assembly. Otherwise it was very easy process to complete. Total time, going slowly and having a cup of coffee was about 1.45 hrs. Everything looked good and no adjustment to the LCD was needed! Now just need to make something to cover the panel from the sun while the Wing is parked!

Re: LCD SCREEN
For those that follow this thread because your NAV screen on your Wing is exhibiting the dead pixel issue I encourage you to consider downloading the PDF on the procedure, found linked in this thread. It was an excellent guide to dismantle. Also, since the postings here are dated some of the info on where to get one led to blind links. The part number of the screen itself is LQ065T9BR53U, and can be referenced also under the following part numbers, LQ065T9BR52U, LQ065T9BR54U LQ065T9BR55U. It is a 6.5" screen made by Sharp Electronics and is readily available. As an electronics technician I researched several distributors for this for the best price. Found this China company on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/172942046469?ul_noapp=true
and shipping took 9 days. Price was $64.99 plus $15.00 epacket shipping from China
As others have said, the whole process takes about an hour. The most difficult is plugging and unplugging the cluster cables.
To those posts that I've seen regarding the screen adjustment, remove the heat shield and cut some access holes in the black plastic plate just above the two adjustment screws. H-POS will shift the picture left-right, which can be done with the metal heat shield remove and the cluster temporarily installed to the three large cluster wires in the rear. Once adjusted remove the cluster, replace the heat shield and finish reassembly. With some courage and a little patience you can save hundreds of dollars.

Re: LCD SCREEN
I just did mine and am not happy with the screen brightness. Much dimmer than factory even when I turn the brightness adjustment all the way up. Is there something I am missing??

Re: LCD SCREEN
offcamber, when you say you have turned the brightness all the way up are you referring to the button dimming control, which also controls dash lighting, or via the menu controls? Assuming you have done both and everything is set as high as possible go into you menu control settings, screen settings, and down to color. In that setting you have the option to select auto/day/night mode and set it from auto to day. Any brighter??

Re: LCD SCREEN
I just used the dimmer control on the dash. I wasn't aware there was another setting. I'll give that a go and see if it improves things.
Thanks

Re: LCD SCREEN
Well I checked the menu setting and everything is up full, changed it to Day only and it made no difference. Day night mode only effects the color of the screen making the light parts dark. It does not effect the "brightness". Even the none Nav info screen is dimmer than the factory unit.

Re: LCD SCREEN
Then it is more likely than not you got one with one or more led back lights out in it. I'm not sure if these are striped or edge lit, probably edge lit, so you may have a full strip of lights that are out. Any way to go back to the supplier and have them make good?

Re: LCD SCREEN
Went to SHARP tech site and looked up the data sheet on these. Back lighting is CCFL not led which explains a lot. If you have one full tube that's out you'll see one area of the screen that is slightly more dim than the rest of the screen. On a miniature level it's like having a four florescent fixture of lights and one tube isn't lighting.
Again, if you have the ability to send this back and have it replaced I would..
Good Luck!

Re: LCD SCREEN
Thanks, AliExpress, so more work than its worth to get it replaced and by looking at it you wouldn't think there is anything wrong with it unless you had seen the original.

I've been reluctant to replace mine with the aftermarket option. Basically I find that all aftermarket parts have unexpected disappointments ... such as not being as brights. I've read other posts where others are complaining about the same thing.

Re: LCD SCREEN
You are probably better at this search then I might be. But is it possible for you to find a better replacement that is LED and not CCFL ???Premtech wrote: ↑Sat May 19, 2018 10:48 am Went to SHARP tech site and looked up the data sheet on these. I'm told that the an OEM screen does have Sharp sticker and the actual part number is LQ065T9BR56U.

Re: LCD SCREEN
I'll just live with for now. I assumed it was a direct replacement apparently it isn't. Maybe that's why the factory unit is $500 and this one was $85. If someone knows the correct replacement I'd be happy to hear.

Re: LCD SCREEN
Just with cursory search it looks like the correct part LQ065T9BR55U is an obsolete model and if you find one will be pricey. If you see it for cheap and research it you will most likely find its the LQ065T9BR54U wish will work but I suspect is the dimmer model.

I might be tempted to rip those CFL tubes out of there and replace them with LEDs.

Re: LCD SCREEN
I'm new to the forum, but I checked out this thread when my LCD screen started dropping pixels last year. I got my replacement from Alibaba and replaced it after the riding season was over. So the first time I took the bike out this spring, I was dismayed to find that the back light is very ineffective during the day, even with the brightness levels all the way up. The $99 Alibaba screen looked like an exact replacement, and the part numbers matched the bike's original screen, but it looks like that $99 is down the drain; it's been 6 months since I replaced the screen.
Anyway, I have a nontrivial electronics background (enough to not be concerned about jumping in where others fear to tread), so I'm intrigued about your mention of replacing the CCFLs with LEDs. Is this really feasible? The microelectronics on the board are daunting, but I didn't even think to look for the lighting when I was replacing the screen, so maybe it's not a big deal? Has anyone done this LED transplant successfully, and is there any guidance online for doing that? Recommended part numbers, etc?

I recently purchased one on ebay from a vendor who claims to have the original OEM model.
DON'T THINK SO!!
After spending 5 hours taking the old one off, installing the new one, removing the new one and reinstalling the old one; I'm extremely upset that the alleged "original OEM" replacement is nowhere near the quality, definition and lighting of the original model.. Cost me $175 including shipping..
Moral of the story: You get what you pay for
I will send for a refund and stick with the original one
