Goldwing Navigation Problem

Post by Jakestoy2002 »

Hello.... I recently purchased a 2007 Goldwing with the navigation system. I've been riding it locally so have not tried to use the navigation to map out a trip. Last weekend I was trying to locate an address that I was looking for. I entered the house number, and was getting ready to add the street name. The letters showed up for @ 1 sec then immediately greyed out so you couldnt enter a street address, the same thing happened when i tried to enter a city.... I'm not sure what the problem is. I did some searching and saw that someone else had written about the same thing, but there wasn't and answers on what is wrong or how to fix. If anyone else has had this problem, and has a solution on how to get it fixed, it would be much appreciated. I'm hoping to do a very long trip next spring and will need the navigation working for it.

Also does anyone have a website where I might be able to load new maps to see if that may help...

thanks much
Dave

Can you do a POI search or does it do the same? If so you probably have an un approved mapset installed.
If you go into the menu and select setup/info and then info/system you will see the data of the mapset installed. I believe the latest approved mapset is 2013 for your bike. If someone installed a mapset that in not approved and is over 2gb in size you will see this problem.
Also can you zoom in to 500ft and see details ? If not then your maps are locked .

New maps can be found on many of the gps websites.

Including Garmin, where you can buy a CF card with the updated maps on it. It will come with instructions on how to upgrade the firmware, then it will auto update your maps. Other than that, as jinx mentioned, many gps websites can provide the maps, and then you just need to learn how to update them. If no one has upgraded the firmware on your bike, that is first. Should be version 4.6 to be able to use newer maps.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

Latest fw should be 4.7 . Themainviking are you running fw 4.6, could this be why you could not get the 4gb card to work ?

Hello Jinx..... Thanks for the reply..... The POI seems to work ok... I entered a town and it located it, I also could zoom into the map and see the details, but it blanks out the keys if I try to enter a town or city in Find mode...???

Hello Themainviking..... I looked in the info/system and the FW is listed at 4.2, but I didnt see anything listed for the maps...?? Should there be something listed there? From what I can read so far I have a CF memory card, do you know if I can upgrade to FW 4.6 or 4.7 and can I load maps from 2013 release?

I'm hoping to get this up an running soon and appreciate the help guys.

regards
Dave

Try updating the fw. The latest is 4.7 . If you haven't done it before I suggest you buy a spare CF card to use for the update . Or if you want the easy way to update the fw and maps buy the latest mapset from Garmin. I maybe wrong but I believe it comes with the latest fw .
Themainviking knows more than I do about what comes with the Garmin mapset updates.

I have my 2008 Goldwing in the shop for a 40K service and to troubleshoot the NAVI system for this same problem. Go to NEW ROUTE and then it takes me to previous found etc... When I go FIND BY ADDRESS, I can enter numbers but all the letters are grayed out, cant choose any of them and can't create a NEW ROUTE. Waiting to hear back from Honda dealer on solution. I have the extended warranty.

Check the map date and size. Latest authorized mapest for a 2008 is 2014.4. Latest fw is 4.9. If it is an unauthorized mapset and it is larger than about 2050mb it will act that way.
