My 2001 GL1800 Goldwing has this peculular rattle or mayby a soft knock coming from the front of the engine area.
I use Synthetic Oil and new filter each oil change, when I get over 2nd gear and about 2500 RPM it goes away.
It doesn't sound like a rod but it is more like an exhaust leak!??!
Could it be the timing chain tensioners allowing some slap?
Or maybe the driveline/transmission....but the sound seems to come from the front of the engine...
It does not make the noise just idiling and it doesn't matter if the clutch is out or slipping to start out.
I really don't know....mayber it is a normal sound for this bike, this is my 1st 1800
Thanks for any help
Mike

BTW it is synthetic bike oil approved for wet clutches.

Wish we could help. The problem is, anyone that answers your question is only guessing as one would need to actually hear the noise.
I'd suggest taking it to a dealer to have it diagnosed.
