Rain Repellent for GL1800 2012 Windscreen

Post by nefty123 »

I use Rain X on ,y car's windshields and wonder about using it on my GL1800 windscreen and my helmet's shield. Does anyone know why this is a bad idea? If so, any suggestion on what product to use.

Don't know about OEM but I bought one of the big barn door shields and it said on it not to use rain-x.

What you CAN use is Moto Solutions RainCoat.

Standard RainX will fog some plastics and if the windshield has a hard coating like a GL1800 windshield, permanently ruin it. I go to the local HD dealer and they have Rain wipes that work pretty good. And with HD ,theyre like WalMart in the fact you can always find a dealer wherever you go.

That works in the U.S. of A. but here in the great white north not so much. You can ride all day and not find an HD dealership, and then you get near a really big city and you will find three. Or five. Then ride for three more days to the next real big city if going west from here, LMAO.

I wouldnt mind that at all. It actually gets old down here tripping over WalMarts and Harley dealers. It seems if you see one the other one is nearby.

Same thing with Burger King. Can't find one? Look for a McDonalds, and there's a Burger King within barfing distance.

One solution is switch to an F4 windshield, and you can clean with Windex.

Just make sure any product you do use is not hazardous to plastic. The old Honda cleaner used to work well, Plexus works well, many have waxed their shields, and some have reported success with Pledge. I used the Honda cleaner for years with no problems but then switched to an F4 and now use only Windex as they specify.

Just curious, what does the owners manual suggest?

I use the same wax on my windshield that I use on the bike. Water beads right off.

Plexus spray
This is used on aircraft windscreens - it will help and also make it easier to remove bugs from the screen

Definitely do not use Rain X
