Missing frame piece
While installing Kuryakyn trailer hitch assembly on my 2003 GL1800 I found the cross bar behind the license plate area is missing. The welded part of the frame is there, but not the piece that screws in below. The trailer hitch bracket is to attach to this bar. Am I okay without this bar, what is the actual name of this piece and if I need it does anyone have a recommendation of where the part can be found. Thanks.

Don't know the name of that piece, but I would ask the dealer if it's supposed to be there.

You can get it here for $4 if you're missing it:

Re: Missing frame piece
Wingadmin is correct. That's the part. It keeps the subframe spread apart. You DO need this part even without the hitch attached. Seems the previous owner removed it to replace the rear tire and never put it back on.

Thanks for the replies and the information. I have ordered the part and I'm looking forward to getting it fixed up.
