2008 GL1800 Special Edition
I am thinking about buying a 2008 Goldwing Special Edition. I have a 1989 gl1500 now. Any cons on the 1800?

Re: 2008 GL1800 Special Edition
I have an 04 GL1800 with no real problems after 120,000 miles. Most of the recalls should have been done and actually were before the 2008 model.
There is a recall right now on all GL1800's for the rear brakes and the owner should have proof it was done or the paperwork for you to take to the dealer. No bike is perfect and most of the GL's go for over 150,000 miles easy with no problems.
I would be concerned about the age of the tires---if older than 5 years I would seriously consider replacing especially if I were going on a long tour even if the tread looks great. Personally, I would also change all fluids as soon as I could do it and probably the air filter. That is probably the hardest maintenance feat on the bike. The service manual and/or Fred videos, or Cruiseman's videos will really simplify.

Most guys that go from a 1500 to an 1800 say they do notice the extra HP. Besides what has already been mentioned find out about last coolant change, brake fluid flush and spark plug change.

There is no SPECIAL EDITION like the 1500 wing. There are different models, some have heated seats and grips, some have on board GPS, I had and 08 and it was a great bike.
