Left sidebag lever fix?

Post by Cousin Jack »

I'm new on here.... can anyone direct me to an article or tutorial on how to fix a left sidebag latch? I can't pop it open with the lever, and have to go through the trunk and push down in the hole....embarrassing. :D

First, welcome to the forum.
If your saddlebag is at least opening through the push rod from the trunk that's a good thing.
When you pull the lever, do you hear a clicking sound like it's trying to release it, but slipping?
The first thing I would do is to pull the cover off in the trunk and see if the screws holding the latch mechanism are tight.
If not, it may be easiest to buy another off eBay and replace it.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood!

Thank you, sir.... I'll take a look in the morning. I can release the lid with my finger through the hole in the trunk, but the lever isn't trying to catch anything. It's totally slack, totally limp.....

Check to see if the cable end clips are there and snapped on to the latch bar inside of the bag. Pics here

what you may find is the bent bit that clips to the release mechanism could be broken in the trunk at the back of the top trunk (latch end )you will see a panel that you can open up here you can see and adjust the pull cables on the 1800 or see if the clip has come off or broken

Okay gentlemen! My baby is fixed! I removed that panel at the rear of the trunk, and after monkeying around, I could see that the S-shaped rod leading to the left lever had come loose from the green clip and the lever (at the lever end).... After more monkeying around with a thin bladed standard screwdriver and an awl, and after much heated profanity, I got them back together again..... The lever now rides were it's supposed to be, and I can pop the left sidebag open with ease, although my heart's in my mouth when I do it..... mucho careful from now on.......... Thanks so much for those who contributed to this thread....appreciate it! :D :D :D

That is usually the method I use when making repairs too...
