Trouble With USB While Listening to Music

Post by Butch Davis »

I have recently purchased a 2013 Goldwing Audio Comfort, loving the bike but having trouble understanding the way that the USB works with the IPhone 5 or IPod. When we first bought the bike the IPhone would play the music and I could change songs from the handlebars, now all of a sudden I can't switch songs at all. Attempted to use an older iPod but it would not play at all. I have tried three different cords with on luck there. Is there a setting on the bike or phone that I am not aware of? What do I need just to be able to play my music and change songs from the bike controls.
It's no fun riding down the road when it's 80 degrees and having to listen to Christmas songs because I can't change it. ANY HELP AT ALL WOULD BE GREAT......

If it worked at first but doesn't now then I suspect the cable.

iPhones are notorious for being cable specific. I have found that only Apple or apple certified cables work with any consistency. I have two iPhones and two iPads and found the iPads are (mine anyway) more critical of the cable being used. Some aftermarket cables (and even some certified cables) will charge ok but not transfer data. If you are getting the message, even occasionally, that this "device is not supported" then it is the cable.

I also have a convenience store and I sell cell phone cables, so I have a lot of history to draw from. Apple products are extremely sensitive to the cables used. The cheap Chinese knockoffs that only cost a few bucks, I don't even carry anymore because they do not work and if they do, it is only for a brief period (from minutes to days).

An alternative route to go would be to download your music onto a USB drive, plug in the USB into the connector in the trunk and away you go.

I use a Bluetooth adapter on a phono plug on my 1500 to attach my iPad which is in the right side pod on a power supply. The only 1800 I have ridden was a F6B which had a phono plug in the left pocket. If you have one, you could also put a Bluetooth adapter on yours and connect your iPhone that way, but I am not sure if your controls would still function.
