Extra wire
My 2003 came with. A iway500 gps installed.. It has been replaced for a long time now. My question is I left the harness that powered it up on the bike and it did have another cord in the left pocket ,looks like the one used for iPod so I can hear it through the headset. But when I hook up iPod to it nothing comes through. I do have the other one to hook up iPod to and that one works.. Any idea what this other one was used for? Or did it only work with iway500 gps? Thanks

Re: Extra wire
Are you selecting the AUX button on the radio input selection?

Re: Extra wire
I have tried to hook up iPhone 6 to it and receive a call still nothing. It is a 3.5 headphone female end . Type plug. Did the I way 500 gps work through this plug? It is driving me crazy. Lol. No sound come through it either through headsets or speakers aux is on....

Re: Extra wire
Not sure if I am understanding correctly about the 3.5 cable but it sounds like you are talking about the stock aux audio cable that came with the bike... that is if there is only 1 cable in the pocket. If there is 2 in there, one was added for the GPS unit and who knows what that was connected to. The single cable in the pocket is accessed by selecting AUX on the radio. I don't have an older 1800 (mine is 2012) but I know on mine, the connector in the trunk is USB for iPod and you hit the AUX button twice and it plays the rear jack which has my iPod Touch connected to it. If I hit AUX again, it switches back to the plug in the left pocket. You have to have the volume up at least 50% on the device you are playing if connected to the audio jack in the pocket though or you will hear nothing, unlike if connected via USB in the trunk. Does your bike have USB in the trunk or 3.5 cable? I ask because I am unfamiliar with that year of bike. I would guess that if both are 3.5 plugs, then hitting AUX more than once would toggle between the two cables.

Re: Extra wire
Thanks, mine doesn't have the usb in the trunk. They are both in the left pocket, but I will try hitting the aux bottom twice to see if that will work.

Re: Extra wire
Okay, 2 wires in the same pocket says the one that doesn't play through your system is an add-on wire and who knows what that is wired to. If you don't have a CB module installed, it is possible that they wired the audio input into that input?!?!?!? Otherwise, there is no way to know unless you tear the bike apart and trace the cable... or give up on that wire.

Re: Extra wire
I would suspect the non Auxiliary input (stock for the GL1800) is added GPS input connection that is after market and feeds into the intercom circuit. If you have wired headsets for your helmet, turn on the intercom and see if you hear anything added into the conversation. If it was my bike you'd find I tapped into the headset lead to get a stereo output for my blue tooth but I suspect yours is mono input to the intercom audio for a GPS or anything you can feed to a mono audio circuit (Scanner, Radar Detector, etc.)

Re: Extra wire
Is the mystery plug a right-angle plug, or is the plug in line with the wire?
