There is no illumination behind the volume knob on the center control panel on my 2007 GL1800.
I could not find any documentation in the service manual on how to remove said panel and inspect the lights.
I am also surprised the info and display buttons are not illuminated. I bought this used so not sure what is or is
not illuminated.
Thanks
Frank

The info and display are not illuminated because they would reflect in the OEM windshield at night!
You have to remove the radio and take the control panel off to access the bulbs.

My manual does not show radio removal. Is there a site or list of instructions on removal?
I still a bit surprised on how many buttons are not illuminated. The reverse button, NAV buttons etc. I
am considering installing some auxiliary light to help. Hope I can find something similar to what I installed on
an older wing years ago. Thanks for the info Frank

Heres a link to Larrys site on radio removal. Having done this a few years ago on my 07 I would recommend replacing all of the bulbs when you do it as youll be chasing burned out bulbs later if you just replace the ones that are out.

I viewed the link for radio removal. Wow-quite a bit of removal for a light. Good advice on changing all the bulbs. Hopefully they will last another 80K miles. Once again thanks to the members here for some awesome posts and info. Hopefully someday I will be able to contribute.

A habit I made is to note which old bulbs still worked and retain them, but as you see its not a quick roadside fix. Better yet if you're a fair tinkerer and can solder there are articles on salvaging the blue plastic base and mounting LEDs and a small resistor in each that replaces the bulb entirely. The only issue is aligning each properly as they are polarity dependent devices; reverse them and they won't light up. I have a set of bases I plan on using to install red LEDs for night vision compatibility this winter (I also have an Illusion Red wing). I've only had 3 bulbs burn out in 70k+ miles.
