Hi all,
Kinda surprised myself that I haven't had any questions until now, but to fill everyone in I bought a Goldwing at auction (repairable write-off) and have started doing repairs. This bike is a monster! But really it's not so difficult to work on. The bodywork just takes up a lot more space in the garage than my other bikes!
Aside from swapping out broken parts and doing paint repair the only thing that's been bugging me is an oil leak on the left hand side. I was chasing the leak, took the LH cylinder cover off and did notice that some of the lower bolts were tweaked, slightly bent. The crash bar on the LH side actually had the tubing split open so I wondered if the cylinder cover just took a nudge which caused the seal to break and oil to leak out, especially as it was parked on the side stand before I got it home? There is no damage on the cover or anywhere else on the engine that I can see, so I was going to just reinstall with a new seal and new bolts and see how it goes. But I am 99% sure that will fix it.
But I just wanted to ask if anyone has had experience with this, is there anywhere else I should check?
Also there was a bit of gunk/road grime sitting inside the bottom of the case when I took the cover off... not sure how that got in, but I would have thought that area was 100% sealed?? Any ideas about that?
I also noticed that there was some carbon buildup or corrosion around the front exhaust header on the left side, the bolts look to be a bit bent as well. So it seems like the bike may have been in an accident quite a while ago as well? Would you worry about this, or just leave it be?
Cheers for any help!

Definitely looks like it took a bit of a whack on the left side there, plus you have that tapped hole there that's split wide open as well. I'd probably at the very least change those exhaust gaskets and perhaps the "tweaked" bolts.

Cheers for the reply. Yeah that broken thread is the middle mounting bolt for the crash bar, probably designed to break that way as it's unsupported behind the end left half of the hole. Need to replace that subframe, but at least it only takes 3 bolts to remove. It sure did take a hit!
And good idea on the exhaust gaskets, getting my parts order ready!
