Left Fork Leaking-Rebuild Forks
So at just shy of 25k miles, my left fork decides to start leaking fork oil. Tried to clean the seal, but decided to just tear apart and rebuild. While I'm in there will replace the stock springs with Progressive Suspension Springs (was considering PMT's but was short on cash). Ordered the new bushings, seals and springs. Started removing the forks over the weekend....

If it's not to late, please consider the Mono-tubes for your front suspension.
Also, if you have not " defeated" the ADV, clean it and make sure it's working properly.

Re: Left Fork Leaking-Rebuild Forks
Would like the PMT's..just not available cash and I don't like to charge things (besides, springs are ordered and being shipped). Have not yet defeated the ADV..but was considering it. There are many different opinions about ADV, with the new stiffer springs, I may just try and see what it's all about. Easy enough to go back and enable or disable the ADV. Everything is still apart at the moment.tfdeputydawg wrote:If it's not to late, please consider the Mono-tubes for your front suspension.

Re: Left Fork Leaking-Rebuild Forks
Over the summer I replaced my front fork Springs with the Progressive Spring Kit when my left seal started leaking. Definitely made a difference in the ride & handling. Shortly after I started to get the infamous front end wobble which I am sure is the Stem Bearings. The mileage on my Wing is approximately 40K miles. Where you have your front end disassembled now, you may want to replace your Stem Bearings to save some time. The Bearings can be purchased for around $40.00 or less. I wish I had changed mine when I replaced my Springs & Seals

Good thought...may consider it, but I believe that a specific tool is required to remove the triple tree...may have to look into that also. Thanks!dragon2000 wrote:Over the summer I replaced my front fork Springs with the Progressive Spring Kit when my left seal started leaking. Definitely made a difference in the ride & handling. Just curious...did you disable the ADV or leave it connected?dragon2000 wrote:Over the summer I replaced my front fork Springs with the Progressive Spring Kit when my left seal started leaking. Got most of what I need to start the rebuild, just need to grab some fork oil and I can start. Since Friday is a paid day off, I will begin the rebuild then, will take a ride on Christmas Day!

Wingpilot08: I disabled the ADV on my 2009 Wing. It's easy to do with the fork on or off the bike.

Re: Left Fork Leaking-Rebuild Forks
Honestly, it was had to tell whether disabling the ADV made a lot of difference. The reason being is that when I replaced the front springs with the Progressive Tube Kit I also replaced both my tires. This included replacing the rear OEM spring with a Progressive and rear shock braided line which along with topping up the shock which was low.wingpilot08 wrote:Yep, realize that, was just wondering if you had disabled it and how much difference you had noticed.dragon2000 wrote:Wingpilot08: I disabled the ADV on my 2009 Wing. Re: Left Fork Leaking-Rebuild Forks
So today I was able to rebuild the forks on my 1800. Started about 7:30 am and finished up everything around 12:00 noon. Wasn't in a rush, took my time and thoroughly cleaned out the fork tube to ensure getting out all the old oil and gunk. Did he left fork first and the right fork second. Replaced all the internals and installed new Progressive Suspension springs (wanted to do the PMT's but with the holidays, cash wasn't available). Replaced the fork oil with 10 weight. Mileage on the bike was at 24,531. I did disable the ADV with a shime from EBay. With the weather holding at about 42 degrees I was able to go out for a test ride. Nice feel, will have to comment on the ADV later on a longer ride. But just happy to have the Wing ready for a ride...weather permitting!
