fault code 26 left knock senser

fault code 26 left knock senser
i am getting a fault code 26 which is a left knock sensor code bike runs fine now what problems will this cause in the future should i pursue this or ignore it? 2004 1800GL

This is not something you want to ignore. If the knock sensor itself is bad, or the wiring to it is bad, the ECU will not be able to detect knocking (detonation) in the cylinders, and retard ignition as required to prevent it.
