ALT BRUSHES

Post by GRAPEAPE94 »

I have an '06 with well over 100,000 miles and was wondering if there is any indication that I should change the brushes in the alt. I have no idea how long they will last. Before I retired I worked at a plastics plant and we were changing the brushes on the conveyor motors quite often. I have noticed that even with a new battery my headlights will dim slightly when applying the brakes. I have checked all of the connections at the alt and battery and they are clean and tight.

A voltmeter will indicate the condition of the alternator. You should read about 12.8 to 13.5 volts at idle, and your lights should stay bright. Your brushes could be dirty, but shouldn't be worn out at your mileage. I hope you enjoy ever mile.
