Digital Music Player USB/Aux/Bluetooth for GL1800 CD Input by J&M

This may sound like a silly question but will a Digital Music Player USB/Aux/Bluetooth for GL1800 CD Input by J&M work on my 2002 Goldwing that does not have a cd changer installed? Thank you.

This item plugs into the bikes CD harness connector. You do not have to have a CD player. If you do have a CD player, this unit replaces it!
You can view the installation instructions on line if you wish.

Also on my shopping list. is there a preferred brand that people like? I see several brands and each has it's own quirks.
What's best choice?

Hi!
Hope someone had this issue and solved.
Last week I've bought a JMDM-gl18e created 5 CD Folders plus the root. I didn't have an 8GB thumb drive so I used what I have like an 8 GB micro SD and a 4 GB CF card plugged in to multi card reader.

I can play the music from root and any CD Folder. I can switch to any folder from the handlebar switch,
Here come the problem : let's say I'm listening to a song and into A minute ( 60 seconds) into the song I switch to FM and stay there for 60 seconds and switch back to cd now the song it's into 2 minutes mark
This tells me that the unit keeps playing in the background.
Called J&M to see if this was normal and I was told no the unit should sto playing and start where it left off.
Whent back to the store i bought it from and tried another unit, same thing, so I assumed there is nothing wrong with the unit.
Could it be but I doubt it the unit might stop if I use a thumb drive.
Hard to find an 8GB or smaller thumb drive in the local store, I know I have few of them in Canada I'll try when I go back.
Anyone had this problem?
Thanks

I've had one for years, actually 3 different ones because they keep failing, the most annoying thing about it is when I shut it off it resumes several songs back from where it left off. Plus it often locks up and won't work until I unplug it, even locks up the radio so nothing works.

Hey Dave!
Is this the JMDM-GL18E that locks up on you? I know it's to early for me to say that doesn't I only had it for few days but I'll post it if I do.
To be honest I was very happy with an 8 or 12$ Bluetooth receiver monted on top of the CB switch I could
Advance pause or play the previous truck on my IPhone stowed in my jacket or saddlebags.
It will make a different sound when came on and paired with a Iphone. If this JM unit will give me problem I'll go back to that.
The reason I went to JM , price is good and it's in the trunk out of the rain, lost 2 BT receiver do to rain damage. If I go back I will put the unit in the trunk and hard wired to the handlebar switches.
The sound is good as A 130$ JM unit.

Not exactly, it a JMDM-IPAX-GL18, almost the same thing but without bluetooth. The last one I sent in worked better than the one they replaced it with. It won't go 1/2 hour without locking up. At least they did it for free. I gave up and got a bluetooth helmet and use my phone.

All,
I just found this thread as I have been troubleshooting a similar problem with the JMDM-GL18E. What I have found thus far, is that if you are preparing your USB stick with windows 10, it puts a hidden folder and also two files in the root and it plays havoc with the JMDM-GL18E. If possible, format it on a Windows 7 PC or earlier.. In fact, try to format it via CMD.
I am still trying to find a workaround for W10, but this is what works for me for now. If you also see a folder being skipped or getting out of sequence, then this is the fix for now.. I also have been emailing the consultant for J&M, but I have not solid answers at this time. Once I have more info, I will forward over.

IM-LU thanks for the information, I don't have windows 7 anymore but windows xp I'll try that when I go back to Canada. When you say " format with CMD" do you mean she'll to DOS and format the card or stick manually not through windows?

Yes, from command prompt . I use the default parameters for formatting in Windows 7 from command prompt. You just want to make sure you are using fat32. If you are using XP, I would imagine that you are OK. Just make sure that you have view hidden files turned on in FileExplorer and look to see if you have a hidden folder. I haven’t gotten confirmation from the manufacture, but my take that’s far is that the MP3 player somehow sees that hidden folder and has a problem with it.
I have been told that some up some virus programs plant hidden folders and files as well. So be aware of that potential.
I did find some information about how to disable via registry the implementation of the hidden system information directory for a windows 10. Before I post the information here, I am going to test myself to be sure it actually works.
