My neighbor has a 02 1800 and it sits.
He claims it starts and runs and drives a mile to three ans dies and won't restart.
He thinks it the computer.
Any thoughts?
BTW my 1200 GW runs great!

Can't diagnose it without a little more info. Does your neighbor own a Volt Ohm Meter? Is there an on-board voltmeter on the bike? Maybe your neighbor should check the battery voltage. How long has he had it? Did it run before? Has it had any work done on it?

The battery is good.
Hew has had it since new.
It used to run fine.
The dealer worked on it before, but (according to him
) the dealer says 4000 dollars to take it apart and check it out. I think he's wrong about that.
Hre says that sometimes it runs for 15 minutes, other times it runs for just a few.
I thought I'd ask here cause (according to him) he's searched the internet and no one .
A few cluse might help me help him...

Re: 2002 GW runs and stops
I would return attention to the Battery terminals. I had reconnected a harness to 02's battery terminals and snugged them up with a screw driver and as soon as I set down from the center stand or hit a bump everything died. After snugging them with a 10mm socket a tad more the issue was resolved. It may be heat expansion or road vibration is just enough to loosen the connection a fraction and induce resistance or and open that kills all electrical long enough to shut down the bike. Voltage never showed and issue on mine while troubleshooting it, there was just enough connection without vibration or expansion from engine heat that it read normal steady voltage at a low current draw; change those parameters and the problem surfaced. Don't let a gorilla tighten the battery connections but definitely clean and tweak them a bit tighter, it might save a lot of time and heartache.

When it "dies" does it suddenly just quit like the key was turned off, or does it begin stuttering and stumbling and then die?froche wrote:My neighbor has a 02 1800 and it sits.

If this problem hasn't been resolved yet?
Do you know if his "FI" l8ight is throwing any codes?
PM me the owners contact number and I'll call him directly,
