CB doesn't have the "RX" come off

Post by bohdan »

Gents, hopefully you could help me. My wife's 2013 trike has a CB. On the way back from Daytona it stopped working. If the CB is on the radio mutes. Anybody have this same problem? Mighty obliged.

It sounds like your squelch is open.

Turn the squelch knob down a little to see if that helps.

You need to RAISE the squelch to get the CB to shut-up and allow the radio to come back on (there's no knob for the squelch). Also, my bike has the BIKEMP3 control unit, and if the GPS is making noise, it too will cause the radio to mute. Do you have anything like that?

Does it do the same thing on other channels? But it does sound like squelch needs adjusted.

CB's squelch often requires adjustment do to changes in ground noise, weather conditions, and random interference near or on the channel it is tuned to. I have the MP3 Evolution CB and it is really no different than the radio in my truck. I experience days when running channel 19, I have to set the squelch anywhere between 7 and 18 do to background clutter, solar flares, unshielded traffic signals, maybe even groundhogs day. The GL1800 radio mutes all other input the moment the CB squelch is broke by a signal, these signals may or may not have any modulation included. The GPS input is usually tapped into the intercom audio and it is also designed to mute all other radio input, but in this case it is an adjustable value using the left radio knob by tapping it once or twice you get intercom volume and then intercom mute level. For your CB all you can do is turn up the squelch with the left bar cluster #3 CB control paddle switch. Of course turning it up also impedes hearing weak signals that may be of value; its a balancing act. If you're not getting the response anticipated check the CB's wire harness connections, especially the one 13 wire connection under the shelter near the riders right knee (mine wouldn't fully connect until I cleaned it and really connected it with some force).
