2008 GL18HPNM8 Radio Issues

Post by SgtMac »

It seems the radio has a mind of it's own. In am/fm mode there is very little volume, have to crank all the way up just to hear. In aux. mode for phone or iPod, volume is just fine and works like a charm. I am told its the radio module and it has to be removed and sent to mfg at my expense from there it is sent to some other place at my expense before they can trouble shoot and tell me what is wrong. I am in Fresno, Ca. Does anyone know of an easier way to have this checked out other than shipping to east coast to 2 different places according to Honda dealer?

First things first, do you have the owners manuals for the bike? They explain how to set the base volumes for each selected piece of sound equipment. If your base volumes for AM/FM are correctly set, then the radio probably requires service. Sierra electronics handles all service that could possibly be needed on GL1800 radios, so sending it there would be the best option.

Well that helped a lot. I really appreciate the headsup. Guess the service department at the local dealer needs more training. I have had it in there 3 times for no volume on radio. Their reply each time was the very bizarre, ship to point "A" and pay the freight. Point "A" would then ship to point "B" and I had to pay that freight also. Then they would tell me how much it will cost.
Thanks again, I appreciate it.

SgtMac, If you have not already sent it in you might check with Larry at: www.wingconnect.com

He does repairs. I don't think you can call him but you can email him from the website!

Thanks Harvey01. I will send him an e-mail with the problem and see if he can help. My next task will be to figure out how to remove the module. Oh well, crap happens!!! Thanks again.

LarryM is awesome as he knows those GL1800 radios inside and out (literally). He's an electronics guru and will get it fixed right.
