Statring issue

Post by MiWinger51 »

I bought a low mileage 2006 gl1800 last August. The bike is great but I've experienced a strange issue a couple of times. I turn on the key and hit the starter and nothing happens. The first thing I check is to make sure it is in neutral, then assure myself it isn't in Reverse mode. I have a brand new battery and everything electrical is fine. I mess with the shift control and eventually it fires up. Is it possible that the neutral light is lit but it isn't fully in neutral? I'm afraid that someday I'm going to have this issue and not have it start. I sure don't want to be stuck 100 miles from home with a dead bike. Has anyone else had this happen?

Don't own an 1800 but found this topic on another site.

Looks like neutral switch is the same for all 1800s. #12 Here

I'm not sure if you are saying the neutral light is off or on. If the light is on, then it might be the kill switch on the right handlebar switch cluster that needs to be cleaned. If the kill switch is off, it just isn't going to start. If it is the kill switch, the FI and Cruise ON lights will not come on when you turn on the ignition but the Neutral light will.
