Re: 2004 gl1800
In my opinion it's a fair price, not a bargain, but a fair price for a great bike, just make sure all the recalls have been done (especially the frame welding).

Re: 2004 gl1800
Thanks ,the dealer said that they check to see if recalls have been done when they trade for a wing ,I have vin, numbers and will check myself .If it was in the recall and check or fixed it should have a punch mark on vin frame tag.

Re: 2004 gl1800
I can't remember all the recalls, but I think a 2004 should have seen 5 recalls total, the frame welding was a big one, you don't want the frame cracking and they had to completely dismantle the bike to be able to weld it!! There was a recent recal for a rear brake issue, a recall for the brake PCV valve, but there were 2 others that affected that year of bike, there should be a couple of sets of punches on the frame tag. One for the frame, a second set for another fairly major recall, and I think the other recalls were minor so no punches on the frame. I will try and find out what the other 2 recalls were..
If you have the VIN number you can visit this web site, enter the vin number and it will list all the recalls and if they have been performed.

Trading to a dealership is a lost cause. You will always lose money that way. A dealer has to make a profit to stay in business so they are going to low ball you on trade in value. Your best bet is to sell the other bike to an individual.

Price was probably in like for a dealer but overall high in my opinion. Put yours on craigslist and then look for an 1800 on sale sites such as this and gl1800riders.com.

Re: 2004 gl1800
I purchased my 2006 Audio Comfort last August. It had 2,214 miles when I had it delivered to my home. I paid 13,250 for it. I think it was a good investment. With the low miles of the bike you are looking at, I think it is a good price. You will get thousands of enjoyable miles out of it.billbob wrote:I have found a 2004 gl1800 abs at a dealer under 26,000 miles one owner ,some chrome ,cb, led trunk and saddle bag lights, driving lights .Now the big ? is 10,700 a good price? Re: 2004 gl1800
Low miles is not necessarily a good thing. The bike has been sitting for most of its life and moving parts need lubrication or they dry out and rot. You are looking to buy during prime time so prices are going to be high. Late last fall I found a dealer that offered 4G off the MSRP. Yes, they low balled my trade (94 GL1500) but with their discount and what they offered, it compensated and the deal was made.
My advice is to ride the GL1500 this season and in the fall put it up on craigs list or wherever then you have the winter to find a deal. Usually there is some type of show or expo in late winter and dealers will offer a low price to move inventory.
Patience patience, patience.

Re: 2004 gl1800
I agree with Raven, however, if you can swing the price of a GL1800 - and you really want one - without trading your GL1500, then that is the deal I would jump on. Then you can take your time and get a reasonable price for your GL1500. If you need the equity in the 1500 in order to purchase the 1800, you are kinda stuck with dealerships as a source, and they are gonna gettcha. There is not a dealership out there that is surviving that does favors for their customers by giving them what their bike is worth traded on what they are selling at a fair price. It just don't work that way. They have overhead that must be compensated for. Private deals are the way to go, unless you are strictly dealing cash at the dealership. Even then, the dealership IS going to make some money off you.
