db651 speaker upgrade
The sound quality coming out of the front speakers on my 2012 wing is decent but in order to hear the rears and get the surround affect I have to adjust the fader a little more to the rear then center . With the db651's is it worth the time and money spent to upgrade?

Re: db651 speaker upgrade
I really do not think so. I put the DB501s in the back of my 2009, and was happy with the sound, but lost a little volume, which put me in the same boat you are in. Now my fader has to increase the rear to hear it well. If I was to put DB651s in the front, it would go back to being equal and maybe improve the sound, but I have discovered that the stock speakers are pretty good. As I ride alone most times now, I use a set of earbuds and an adapter to just plug them into the drivers headphone jack, and I get far better sound with less wind noise than I ever could by the speakers. I bought top of the line earbuds, so the music quality is pretty radical. Also, all instructions from the Nav are loud and clear.

i have done the front AND rear conversion on my 2013 ( 651s up front and 501s in rear). to me, they sound much clearer than stock and get far less distortion if i have to turn up the volume over 20

Re: db651 speaker upgrade
Can the DB651s be put in a 02 with out or little modification or do I just use the DB501's? Also any suggestions on a amp for a 02?

Re: db651 speaker upgrade
i believe the '02 uses the 501s. minor trimming is necessary but not hard.

Re: db651 speaker upgrade
I have the J&M speakers in my gold wing, they are made specifically for the 1800, no modifications required, they are marine quality so not affected by the weather and sell for $100 a pair. Give very nice sound and are rated at 3 ohms, so completely compatible with the goldwing stereo. I used to have J&M wired headsets and loved them so decided to go for their speakers based on my experience with the headsets and the good reputation that this company seems to have in the goldwing community!! Worth considering.
