J&m digital player plugins? 1800

Post by glenwegener »

Anyone know where to get the plugins for under the seat so I can extend them to the trunk so every time it freezes up I do not have to take the seat off to unplug it and plug it in? Want to do it from the trunk.

You might contact J&M and see if they have a cable or better yet, a fix for the problem of it locking up on you.

Called them today. Will send new one out after inspect mine but leaving on trip Monday! They must cost them at least 5 dollars to make them in China! Looks like bad usb port. Drive has free play! Great. Bluetooth works for my iPod and phone so probably will not use usb. Told them they should put extension on it to move the plugin to the tour pack so you don't have to take the seat off every time it locks up. Anyone know where to get the plugin plugs? I would make my own!

All you have to do is pull the audio fuse and re-install. That will reset the audio system.

Mine has been exchanged twice. Nothing changed. Mine is in the trunk however. To reset mine, I have to shut off the audio and the motorcycle, unplug the MP3 unit, pop out the SD card and press the reset button. Then turn it all back on. It works beautifully when it is working. Rough roads are hard on it, I guess because every time I hit a bit of washboard, it acts up. I have had mine since 2011. I do not use the USB port, and never have. I use SD cards in mine.

That is the older model. The new model does not have a sd and the plug is under the seat now. Not at the unit. Upgraded? I think not.

I've been considering purchasing one of the J&M units and installing it. Based on the comments I'm reading from you all, should I even bother with one? I don't want to have to hassle with pulling fuses. My MP3 adapter on my phone works fine..

Well, all I can say is that after I purchased the J&M unit a couple months ago after my factory CD changer crashed. I really don't see what all the hype was about regarding these MP3 players. Yeah, they are cheaper then the factory CD player and yeah, they hold more music files, but in the 01-05 wings they are not that great. After I had my initial problems with mine after install, I took it back off the bike and drove over to J&M in Tucson (I live in the Phoenix area) to have them bench test it as I thought I got a defective one. They did the bench test while I waited and said it was fine. They speculated that it was something in my flash drive formatting and the way the music was downloaded causing the problems. So I re-installed the player and tried to re-download all my music again using a different flash drive but got the same results. Maybe the newer Wings can better adapt to these players, but for now I am just "living with it" . If you are having good results with you're set-up, then I would just stay with that especially if you have a 01-05 Wing.

Thanks for the input, I think I'll pass on this upgrade. I purchased a longer cord so I can keep my phone in my tank storage pouch, works fine. What I think I would really like is a satellite radio setup. There is a lot of nothing from Vegas to anyplace else and radio reception is spotty at best. Gets old listening to the songs stored on my phone on long rides.

In my opinion, that would be money better spent. The mp3 players were a great idea, but they are just not there yet for the Goldwing audio systems.

Good Luck !!

I purchased the J&M digital player with USB and Bluetooth. I loaded my music files exactly as it stated in the directions. I have only had one instance where it locked up and I simply turned the bike off and restarted it and it was fine. The problem that I am having is not all of my files will play. if I am on CD1, and press the toggle switch to go to CD2, it will skip to CD3, and sometimes it will not display a CD number at all. I have changes USB drives as well as checked all of the files to make sure that I didn't put any other files other than .mp3, or .wma. I'm not sure if there is a fix for this or not, I will say that the Bluetooth works like it should, so I can be at least 85% happy with it.

Have you thought about getting the Pandora app on your phone and going that route? it uses cell data of course, but if your are unlimited in that department, it would work well on the Bluetooth side. Also, if you have an Sirius XM account, you can get that app for your phone as well. Just my thoughts.

You might give some thought to disconnecting and cleaning connector where the digital player is connected. That is really a dirty environment under that seat.

I guess I am just old fashioned, I fitted a GPS to my goldwing, put tons of music on it and connected it to the Auxiliary input on the wing. The GPS navigates and gives directions and plays music just fine, I can select by artist, album, etc, the GPS automatically lowers the music when giving directions and then returns the music to full volume. Absolutely no need for an additional MP3 player and has been 100% reliable for more than 8 years!! The GPS even pairs with my phone via bluetooth so if someone calls me I can answer and talk to them whilst riding and again the GPS stops the music whilst I am on the phone and restarts it when I hang up..

I had to clean it up really good before I installed it. You are absolutely correct, it is a mess under there!

Hey Gary,
Which GPS are you running? Is your music on sd cards? Mp3 format?
Thanks

I think I have found my issue........I went back and made sure that I hade at least one .wma file in each folder. Now it plays every cd folder and every track just like it is supposed to do. Directions state to make sure that all files are mp3 or wma, not that you may need at least one of each in each folder. Oh well........it's all good now.

It's an old Garmin GPS, the music is in MP3 format on an SD card that goes in the GPS. I will get the exact model later when i go to my bike, but I think all GPS's have the same features more or less.

I ended up just using the bluetooth feature with my ipod and just forget the usb port. Works great just for that. One problem, Everytime I shut off the ignition I have to reconnect the Ipod via it's settings. Kind of a pain but if I shut off for short period of time I just turn the ignition to Access.

Okay, I got the details of my GPS, its a Garmin Nuvi 765, but as stated I think any GPS would work.
