Install Aux power for phone

Post by rjnson@comcast.net »

I installed a Ram Cell phone kit on my 2016 GW Audio Comfort and was looking for an easy way to neatly get power up to the usb port on my phone. Any suggestions?

I installed a USB charger by running the wire down the handlebar on the left side and under, into the left fairing compartment. I tied into my existing 12V receptical in the compartment. You can run the cable down the handlebar in the cable tray. You will need to remove the left storage box and fish it into that area to tie into the 12v outlet (assuming you have existing 12v receptical). Then reinstall the storage compartment. Mine is really clean, just make sure you leave enough cable to allow your steering from one side to the other.

I did the same thing with a USB port from Cycle Gear only I put the USB port on the right side of the handlebar where I mount an auto type GPS. Hardest part was fishing the cable/wires around the steering head, ensuring they don't get snared and damaged/cut.
