Kick Stand Mod

Post by Wingrider73 »

Had to park my bike on a very wet county grade road to help a friend get his bike turned around. As I was leaving my bike I noticed it began to lean towards the kick stand. I caught it just before it toppled over. Had a terrible time getting it lifted up so I could actually get back on the seat! So I decided to modify the kick stand to give more ground to bike surface hoping for better support on soft surfaces. I used one of those plastic supports most dealers give away as a template and cut a 1/8" steel plate to match the area. Spot wielded, ground smooth, painted and wala - a much better support I think.

Nice mod. When do you go into production? I'm in for one!

Does it clear everything when the stand is in the up position?

Yes the mod will clear the under carriage and not hinder foot action at all. I haven't tried it on soft ground yet but expect it to be a great asset.
The mod actually cost about $10 and probably nothing if you have some scrap metal, paint and a wielder.

I wish I could mass produce this little gem but there is too much competition out there at reasonable prices. I just wanted something simple that would work for me and not look too bad.
