2012 Headlights Quit (2 questions)

1. 2012 Goldwing headlights wouldn't work this morning, went through this site today and tried putting the reverse on still nothing, then pulled out on the starter switch and they all came on. Do I need to replace the starter switch?

2. Previous owner installed bright blue lights love their brightness, but will that eventually burn something out, they must be pulling more power? Trouble down the road?

2012??? Probably needs a good application of quality contact cleaner.

As for the "blue lights" - do you know what type they are?

IF they are HID or LED, they will be pulling much LESS power than the standard incandescent bulbs, and will definitely not burn anything out.

Not sure what type of Bulb they are. long slender bulbs on the high beams that i can see. Thanks for the info all>

You may want to contact the previous owner. He may have installed a lock out for the HID's using the oil pressure switch. Your lows are fed from two different locations. RS from starter switch, LS direct from relay.

yes, be sure to check that the HIDs are controlled by an Oil Pressure switch, mine are... keeps the ballast from cycling unnecessarily when starting the engine.

Definitely get some CRC and flush out the start button. The word is not to use WD-40 or wet spray lubricants as they collect the grime that can jam the switch up; but I've used it very sparingly before. Living in a dust bowl here my switches probably stick more than many other riders and I carry CRC in my toolkit. Do be careful to ensure the starter doesn't get stuck running, it can and does happen. My Starter relay B had a melt down after a 20 mile jaunt with the starter humming away. I couldn't hear it until I pulled over to refill a coffee mug and couldn't shut off until pulling the switch out. Starter was fine but one starter relay (solenoid) over heated, then it cooled down and the plunger got stuck and failed (no start). One can separate the right switch pod and clean the switch more completely but its not for the faint of heart and parts have been known to get lost!
