Gl 1800 Seat

I have a gl 1800 2010 I do not like after 50 miles it just uncomfortable. My old 1500 could go 200 or 300 miles with no problem. I have air Hawk it helps with out spending $1000 for some custom seat that you can't test. First any one have solution or just suffer with it?

Secondly If your problem is cramping, you need to be able to stretch out a bit, and that would require highway pegs. If you have them already, ignore this.

And thirdly, you may have to invest the $1000 in a seat. I have an Ultimate seat and could not be happier. I hated the stock seat from the git go. I was good for no more than a hundred miles, and rest, then 50 and rest, and so on. With my Ultimate seat, I can do thousand mile days, although I do not any longer. Suffice to say, I am good for the whole day, and ready the next day to do it again. Other companies make seats, but I have no experience with any but Ultimate and Corbin. I hated Corbin, but that is just me. Others love them.

All that said, I think the least costly experiment would be the LD Comfort underwear. Get a pair and decide for yourself. Other companies make these as well, but my only experience is with LD Comfort.

No need to suffer. Have your stock seat fixed. Worked for me and everyone I know that has had it done.

I've been using one on each of my Wings for about three years now. Big difference in comfort, especially in hot weather.

Lots of people swear by them (myself included), some people hate them, but I have gone over 19 hours straight on my Corbin seat and could have gone longer if not for overall fatigue (and the fact that I arrived at my destination).

I'm not sure if that is for our butt to get used to the seat or the other way around. However, I didn't really find a comfortable position for me until a little over 800 miles. I now have a almost 3k on mine and the longest ride so far is only 300 miles. I had no trouble with numb butt.

My issue is with the twig and berries. Sometimes they're getting squished and I have to make adjustments on the fly. (no pun intended) Now I'm wondering if a different seat might solve that issue.

I had the same issue. That is why I went to the beaded seat cover. 20,000 miles on the GL1500 and 35,000 miles on the GL1800 and no more issues now with discomfort.

At about $40 a copy, it was the most reasonable way to go. And, if it is not something that agrees with where the person meets the saddle, it is not a major hit to the wallet to take it off and give it away or throw it in the trash. In 2012 I bought a used Ultimate Midrider seat for my GL1800 and I didn't care for the feel. Paid $335 for it. It is in a box in the attic now.

The beaded seat was the way to go for me.

I'm sure you don't want to spend the money, but I too have the Ultimate Seat. LOVE IT! Fortunately, I got a pretty good deal on an eBay resale.

I have a Corbin seat on my 2009, on top of that I have air-hawk seat cover and then a short hair sheep skin cover, I absolutely love the ride. I am 6' 5" and have highway wings comfort. I have rode 8000 miles last summer, it is the best seat I have ever ridden with. Its well worth the money. There is no doubt that the setup I have is an iron butt ride if I wanted to do it.

For me the stock seat pushed me up on the tank and put my knees into the fairing, the Corbin seat sits back three inches further then the stock seat, along with my mini bars on the highway wings gives me the best riding position for long rides. Also, even though my wife loss a couple inches in her seat length, she still has more room then our 1500 did (she loves her Corbin seat too). Awesome ridding comfort, won't ride without it or any other seat.

My 1800 had 25,000 miles on it when I got it.
The stock seat is /was terrible -- 50-75 miles was torture -

My 1500's all had a Diamond seat on them -
700 mile days were easy - several times I have done the SS1000 (only registered one time)

So I bit the bullet and spent the $1000+ for a CUSTOM DIAMOND GL1800 seat.

Now I have 50,000 miles on the 1800 -
I have ridden several 800+ mile days with no issue -
500 miles before lunch a few times as well .

the SADDLE may be the most important piece of equipment to your comfort -

I also am a proponent of the LD Comfort underwear - no monkey butt for me ...

Some of my riding buddies call me a mileage **** - I like big miles days - A 300 mile days seems like a wasted day to me -
Unless it is all in the mountains on curves at 3500 RPM

my close friend, Andy Williams just did this, and it beats the Corbin seats 10 ways from Sunday.

He and I both have had Corbin seats, and never could "adjust to them", period.

This one, uses memory foam, and it adjusts to you, without being uncomfortable like the Corbins.

Hi.
I bought my 1800 about 18 months ago and, being used to European/Japanese bikes, I found the low seat gave me back pain and general discomfort.
I reckoned the seat was too low for an ergonomic riding position and considered a higher custom seat. However, nobody seems to offer 'Higher' and I guessed it might cost $700-$1000 to get one of the custom units on offer. (There are even lower seats being advertised)

So, plan B - I first bought an Airhawk but that makes little difference. Next I started inserting half-inch layers of foam under the Airhawk. I kept going until I had 6 layers at which point I reckoned I had something like a familiar position.
Back to the foam shop, I got them to cut a three inch block of foam to my pencil drawn template (cut away at the the front sides - it's kinda saddle shaped!)
From a fabric remnant shop, I obtained some black, waterproof fabric and took the pieces to the curtain Alterations shop.

I came away with a 'Custom' Saddle which is 3" higher (still plus Air-hawk as the straps are holding the cushion in place)
The whole process cost me about $50 and not a little time. I am however delighted with the raised seat - it gives more legroom and, in the process, leans me very slightly forward which gives a far better position for my back.
Total success as far as I'm concerned.
