Hey folks I'm a newbie here. My 05 when I try to release the crews control my bike dies, If I tap on the run stop switch I can get it going again. Not a good thing to happen when riding down the Highway. I know it's a short but how easy is it to take the switch apart. Also the crews control off button is stuck in the on position.
It’s not really a short, the contacts in the run/stop switch are dirty. Leave your key off and flip the switch full left and full right about 50 times. This will scrub off the oxidation and get it going again. Best way to test it, is to start the bike after all the flips and then tap on it. It should not make the engine even stumble when tapped. Try spraying a bunch of plastic safe contact cleaner into the cruise control switch, the old lube has gelled and jacked up the little latching pin.
Secondary to cleaning out the Cruise Control On Button, you might just leave it alone, if it is not causing any problems. I have not turned mine off since the first ride I took with the bike brand new. A functioning button which is never pressed has very little chance of malfunctioning.

Me too, I see no reason to ever turn it off. To cancel the cruise I just touch the clutch.

Yes ... that can be real scary. You can do like Rob says, and clean the switch. Many DIYs will remove the switch assembly, clean and lube all the switches in it. However, since you have multiple switches failing, and the switch assembly has come down in price by a couple hundred dollars over the years, you might consider just replacing the entire assembly. However you choose to resolve your kill switch issue, the test I use to test them is this. The only time it should kill the engine is when it is rotated either left/right to a kill position. If you grab the top of the kill switch and rock it forward/aft, or side to side it should not kill the engine.
