My 2012 seats hurts after 30 or so miles.Seems to be the TOO narrow, and the little turn up on the sides. I got on my gl1500 what a difference! Both seats are oem. Any suggestions? I'm 6.2" 265 lbs 32" inseam.

GL1500 seats were made for bigger people. Those things on the side of the GL1800 seats were supposedly to give some leverage to back up a wing without using reverse. I am smaller than you are Fat Man 65, and I was not comfortable for long periods of riding on the GL1800 stock seat. I tried a Corbin and sold it to a buddy, as I hated it. He loves it. I then got an Ultimate seat. I have been happily riding ever since. It was the one that did the trick for me. Many other custom seats are on the market, and remaking your seat is another option as well, probably one of the least expensive. Corbin and Ultimate are probably the most expensive of the solutions. A beaded topper, or a gel topper are two of the least expensive.

I have a Corbin seat with back rest, I have a air-hawk air cushion and a short hair sheep skin on top of that. Tried riding with just the new seat when I got it but I was to use to the air cushion and sheep skin. Rode about 50 miles and stopped and put them back on, won't ride without them. Love the Corbin seat along with my additions, can ride all day and could easily ride the 1000 mile iron but if I had to.

I have good news, and I have bad news. OK....I lied about the good news. I went from the factory seat to a WingSoft remake, to an Ultimate, and now to a custom Tom Simmons. The Tom Simmons is the least uncomfortable seat yet. I'm comparing all the Goldwing seats to the seat I had on my '06 Harley Road King. That seat simply fit me perfectly. I'm not sure what the answer is. I know lots of Wing riders that have no problem at all with the seats. So I just force myself to be happy every day I can ride. Ride SAFE!

Perhaps a local custom seat builder could make a seat for a GL1800 that approximates a Harley Ultra Glide or Road King seat. It is a matter of a seat that one sits on, and one that you can sit down into. Harley, in my opinion, has always made seats that are meant for long time riding. The frame styling can have a lot to do with it, however, and perhaps a Goldwing frame is just not suited to that style of seat. The closest I have seen would be the Corbin, but I found them too hard, for me, at least. Maybe a Corbin with a bit more cushion? I dunno, FAT MAN. It is a quandary for sure.

If you ever get a heated seat, you will never go back. That is money well spent, regardless of which seat you eventually end up with. I don't intentionally spend a lot of time in the cold, but heated grips and seats are worth every penny when you get caught in a hail storm in August in Colorado. Trust me, you will never regret the expense of a heated seat and heated grips.

Yeah, it cost me a lot more than that, so you have obtained a deal. Though you do not mention if you are including the driver and passenger backrests (heated passenger) which I did. Including the friggin taxes for where I live, my seat cost me $1720, heated. I have not used the heating in the seat since I first installed the seat and tried it out. I have never found it necessary, but maybe that is because I have not gotten used to using it. I believe, with the comments I see here, that I need to begin heating the seat on colder days to actually discover the difference between heated and not. The heated grips on the other hand are an absolute must for colder, or wetter riding conditions.

I received a set of bead riders fro Christmas and have yet to try them. It's still winter here. Looking forward to April when riding season starts.

I can recommend E. D. Motorcycle Seats in Markham, ON for custom saddles for our GLs. Talk to George...he sells wing seats through a US outlet.

Another AirHawk ( https://airhawk.net/ ) fan here. Bought one for my 1986 GL1200-A. I've done a few IronButt rides: Saddlesores, BunBurners, and the GreatLakes 100, plus Chicago -> Key West -> Washington D.C -> Chicago, and a few others. I won't travel over 30 miles without it. Recently upgraded to a 2016 GL-1800, moved the AirHawk to the new seat and kept right on riding. Only issue is the new bike's seat heater won't go through it. To me, it's been worth EVERY penny I spent on it.

I'm 6'-2.5" and ~300 lbs. Stock seat was getting uncomfortable at ~1 hour and I was definitely ready to get off by 100 miles. At that point it felt a lot like a slightly padded two by four. Tried a gel pad. Tried a sheepskin. Tried them together. Nothing really helped. Had Russell Cycle Products (Day-Long Seats) rebuild our 2010 GL-1800's seat to our dimensions over the 2012-2013 winter months. That change made it possible to ride out a tank (200+ miles) without ever having to stop, only felt a little stiff when stopping to get gas. It definitely costs more than the other options, but it was worth it. We have ridden quite a few 400+ mile days since then on cross country trips and always ended those days a little tired but the rear ends were still OK.

Thanks for the replies. azabran sky & ggreen. I'm leaning toward a SEAT that will push me back. Also handlebar risers.

I had the same desires. They pushed me back 1" and I added handlebar risers to move the bars back to straighten me up a little. They also redid the passenger seat back to sit the co-rider more upright and added their driver's seat back.

I love the OEM seat on my 88 GL1500. As I have seen posted here, I can ride forever on that original seat on a 30 yr old bike. I did try my brothers 04 GL1800 and didn't like those little wings on the sides of the seat. Hoping if I ever go to an 1800, which I am hoping I won't, I can have a seat that is comfy.

My seat was really hurting my thighs a lot on long rides. I took my bike over to Seattle, to Rich's Seats. He took mine off, carved the foam to meet my butt requirements, and also my wife's. He made me test ride it until it was what I wanted. He also installed a gell pad in both seats. Now when I ride, I don't sit on the seat, I sit in it. I don't think that all butts are the same, so buying one off the shelf won't fix the problem. Just my opinion.
