Malfunction indicator light
2001 GL1800A with 120,000 miles, the "FI" red light has come on. What is this an indication of and is it hazardous to keep riding?

Have a read through this to find out what is causing the light to come on:

Re: Malfunction indicator light
There are 2 ways of finding out why. Here is the easy way, but the light must come on while riding. If it comes on while riding, here is what to do:
- pull over, shift into 'N' but do not turn it off
- lower the side stand
Those steps triggers the FI to flash. The next thing you will need to do is count the flashes and do the math. The math equals this:
- long flash = 10
- short flash = 1
If you miss the count, the code will cycle again. The time between the cycles is longer then the time between the flashes.
Example: long long short short short = 23
Then report back here with you number.

Re: Malfunction indicator light
I have ridden a couple more trips, about 2 hrs worth, and it has not come back on. I will have more info when it occurs again.

If you have a Service Manual, the other way is to pull the DTC code out of it's memory.
