grip and seat heaters

Post by llenryb »

Hey folks, just got my new to me 2010 Goldwing home and I was going through the controls in the garage.
It seems like perhaps the heated grips and seats may not be working.
I cannot find a fuse in the fuse box labelled for either of these systems.

Are there any fuses for these and if so where do I check.

Cheers.....

Brian

There is a section on trouble shooting the Comfort System in the Honda service manual.
You need this manual to accurately check this system.
One thing to check is to remove the seat bolts, raise the seat enough to make sure the seat is properly/fully plugged into the connector.

Fuses #11 & #29. The factory heaters take a long time to warm up, if I start mine and let it warm up a few minutes and take off it is probably 8 to 10 minutes before I actually start feeling heat.

If there is any bad heating element, it will kill the entire system. For example, if all 3 heat switches are on, and there is a grip problem, the grip will kill the entire system. To make the system work again, the key has to be cycled off and back on. Therefore, in each test below, before moving onto the next one, turn off the system you are checking, then switch the key to the off position, restart the Wing, and move onto checking the next heating element. Also, it is best to secure (tape) your throttle in a position to know that you are charging ... at 2000 rpms you are.

First, try only the grips. Make sure frt and rear seat controllers are turned off. Heat is pretty instant in the grips. Leave them on and see if they continue to heat for at least 30mins. Then turn the grips off and do the same to each seat. To feel heat in the seats, you will need to sit on it. For the seat, be sure they continue to heat for 40mins. If you live in a hotter climate, you'll still probably feel the heat in the front seat but not so much on the back one. Then after checking their results individually, turn all 3 switches on to see what the results are. After doing that, report back.
