Trunk delete?

Post by bugspit57 »

I’ll cut to the chase.

I looked through the DIY and didn’t see this but MBL(?) used to offer a kit to remove the trunk and make a F6B out of your older GW.
MBL is no longer offering this kit. Besides the want-ads and eBay, is there another option for this?
Is there a DIY procedure on here?

I did find that HONDA offers a delete kit for the 18 model, but have yet found one for the older generation.

Thx!
I’ll keep browsing you wonderful site. 😀

I realize this is not the best spot to post this, mods feel free to move.

Or, apparently I’m off my rocker and should buy an F6B.

You would be in a correct forum for your thread, but although, in the past, I have seen mention of a trunk removal kit for other than 2018 GL1800s, I have not seen any for a while. I, therefore, cannot assist in any other way, except for to say you have posted your question in a place where someone who CAN help may see it. There is, presently, a kit for this for the 2018 Goldwing Tour, but even the places who stock this do not have mention of it for older wings. Sorry I could not be of more help.

I have a riding buddy that took the trunk off his 01 and his 07. I don't have a picture of his 01 but here is his 07.

Thanks

My idea would be to go solo on the seat, if possible, build a smaller rack to cover things up.

If I remember correctly, Niehaus Cycle used to have a kit to do this. You might give them call.

No luck there.

But, why wouldn’t a parts list for a F6B supply me with my objective?
May be pricey but wouldn’t that work?

I think this is a great question. I would like to remove the trunk from my 2012 model, and replace it with a luggage rack and Givi adapter. Then I would have a removable trunk. I can also add lights to the Givi trunk. The Givi is bigger, sturdier, and removable. And it's just gathering dust on a shelf in my garage.

You still have not said what wing you are asking about doing this on.

The F6B parts can be put on to replace the trunk of the 2012-2017. The saddlebags and taillight are different than the 01-2010 and you would run into problems of fitment. To put the parts on 01-2010, you would have to change the saddlebags, taillight and sidecovers. It can be done yes. Not cheaply.

This is a two year old thread, the OP has not been active since 2018, I would think it unlikely you will get a response to your reply, but good info any ways.

Mine is a 2012
And since I have to enter at least 20 characters, it’s black and silver - the fastest colors.

Sorry but you're wrong, the fastest color is YELLOW. And honestly, the picture kind of looks like a grill attached to the back of a Goldwing, might be great for tailgating but not so good for a passenger, just say'in.
